Levy increase confirmed
28 Mar 2017
Government has confirmed the fire service levy is to increase by 40%. This increase is a result of a decision to amalgamate urban and rural fire services and shift virtually all the resulting costs onto insurance.
Cabinet approved the new levy rates yesterday afternoon.
Cabinet agreed that regulations be made to set levy rates commencing on 1 July 2017, as follows:
- for property, at 10.6 cents per $100 insured (insured amounts capped at $100,000 for residential buildings and $20,000 for residential contents);
- for motor vehicles (less than 3.5 tonnes), at $8.45.
