Strategic Risk Advice: The Value of New Zealand’s Broking Profession

October 2026

Understanding the value of insurance brokers

The Insurance Brokers Association of New Zealand (IBANZ) has released a comprehensive report Strategic Risk Advice: The Value of New Zealand’s Broking Profession, highlighting the importance of New Zealand’s fire and general broking profession and its contribution to the New Zealand economy and wider regional communities.

For the first time, the report highlights a diverse and skilled profession supporting clients across personal insurance, small businesses, rural enterprises, commercial organisations, and specialist industries.

The findings show that brokers do far more than arrange insurance. They help clients understand risk, make informed decisions, and navigate uncertainty.

The profession has evolved significantly over the past decade, with stronger professional standards, regulatory reform and greater investment in education reinforcing the value and trust placed in professional advice.

“This research makes a strong case for the value of professional insurance advice. Every day, insurance brokers help New Zealanders navigate uncertainty, protect their livelihoods and assets, and build confidence in an increasingly complex world.”
